Equality
NHS Bristol, as a supplier of health services, a promoter of
health and an employer of people, is committed to
eliminating discrimination, advancing equality of
opportunity and fostering good
relations between different groups of
people.
The Equality Act 2010 provides protection from
discrimination on the basis of: age, disability (including physical
impairment and mental health problems), gender re-assignment,
marriage/civil partnership, pregnancy/maternity, race (including
nationality and ethnic origin), religion/belief, sex (men and
women) and sexual orientation (lesbian, gay and bisexual
people).
We aim to provide accessible services and
deliver them in a way that respects the needs of each individual
and does not exclude anyone. To turn this
commitment into reality, our Equalities
Policy states that we will:
- value the diversity of patients, service users and
employees
- develop and implement action plans to identify and eliminate
discrimination, reduce health inequalities and promote equality of
opportunity
- communicate our aims and progress clearly to patients, service
users, employees and local communities
- ensure that employees receive the training, information and
support that they need to effectively tackle discrimination and
promote equality
- work closely with our partners to achieve our equality aims and
standards.
