Emergencies

If you need emergency care you should go to the emergency department or call 999 for an ambulance.

An emergency is a critical or life-threatening situation. This can include:

  • unconsciousness
  • a suspected stroke
  • heavy blood loss
  • a deep wound such as a stab wound
  • a suspected heart attack
  • difficulty in breathing
  • severe burns.

Emergency departments are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
